A Holistic Approach to Wellness at The Buckingham

Healthy living is more than just a catchphrase at The Buckingham…it’s a culture. From nutritious meals to programs and classes that feed mind, body and soul, it’s little wonder one of the nation’s leading healthy aging advocacy groups has named The Buckingham as one of a few Centers for Successful Aging nationwide.

Yoga, chair chi, water fitness — even specialty workshops like purse ergonomics — pack a weekly schedule of wellness activities, outings and opportunities. Some residents have even taken a leading role in making sure wellness remains top of mind.

Three mornings a week, Gail Borgen and Jill Bott participate in aerobics and chair exercise classes. They’ve become so comfortable with the program that occasionally they lead a class.

“I think the fitness director and the other residents appreciate it when we take over from time to time,” said Borgen. “They trust we’ll lead them through a good workout.”

“It’s a lot of fun,” added Bott. “We’re both so active inside and outside The Buckingham. We’re glad to help out when called upon.”
