Michael Wyse

Michael Wyse

Chairman

Michael is a seasoned restructuring professional with extensive experience in the areas of corporate debt, mergers and acquisitions, financial operations, stakeholder management, and operational restructurings. He received his Bachelor of Science and master’s in accounting at St. Bonaventure University. Since then, he has had more than 20 years of experience as a senior associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, director at Zolfo Cooper LLC, vice president at Great American Group, and executive director at Donlin Recano & Co.

In his current role as a managing partner at Wyse Advisors, a boutique firm focused on distress/special situations, Michael provides his expertise through advisory, C-Level positions or sitting on boards. Michael has experience across all shapes and sizes of industries, ranging in revenues from $10 million to $20 billion.

Michael retired in June 2018 after a 36-year career in financial services. From October 1996 to June 2018, he worked for Delaware Investments/Macquarie Investment Management as senior vice president and head of municipal credit research. He was head of the company’s municipal research operations, managing a team of seven research analysts, covering over $10 billion in municipal bonds under management. He was also responsible for sector analysis of continuing care retirement communities, nursing facilities, land secured/special assessments, and workouts. Before joining Macquarie Investment Management, which includes the former Delaware Investments, he was vice president and senior municipal analyst for T. Rowe Price for eight years.

Michael received a bachelor’s degree, cum laude, in environmental design from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a master’s degree in urban planning from the University of Oregon. He is a member of the National Federation of Municipal Analysts and a member of the Society of Municipal Analysts. Michael is actively involved in several Philadelphia-area charities, including the Free Library of Philadelphia Foundation, Johnson Historic House, the Pennsylvania Prison Society, and the Friends of Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Berry joined The Buckingham board in February 2019. He graduated with a B.A. from Austin College followed by a J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law. He is recognized as a successful bankruptcy attorney having represented debtors, lenders, official and ad hoc committees, unsecured and secured creditors, equity interests and other parties-in-interest in bankruptcy cases all over the country. He has a track record of constructively bringing parties and solutions together and crafting pragmatic and workable solutions to difficult problems. Berry had significant involvement in all aspects of bankruptcy cases, bankruptcy litigation, and out-of-court restructurings in a variety of industries and commercial sectors, including healthcare, technology, energy, real estate, and public utilities. Additionally, he has been involved in cross-border cases and municipal bankruptcy issues and has represented major lending institutions in their role as administrative and/or collateral agent in nationally syndicated credits.

Dr. Jan van Sant

Jan is a 34-year oil industry veteran with increasing management and executive positions in the areas of exploration, production research, and technology with companies such as ExxonMobil and Pennzoil. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin (Madison) and a Ph.D. and master’s degree in geology from the University of Kansas. Additionally, he graduated from the Harvard University School of Business with a degree in industrial research management. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin, Jan joined the U.S. Army as a first lieutenant for special assignments in Korea, Alaska and elsewhere.

Since his retirement, Jan has continued to support businesses and universities philanthropically. He has been a resident of The Buckingham in Houston, Texas, for 10 years, and has served as president of the Independent Living Resident Council for more than 3-1/2 years.

Robert Ogle

Robert was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, but has resided in Houston for 40 years. He received his Bachelor of Science in accounting at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, and received his master’s in accounting at the University of Missouri, Columbia.

Currently, as a senior advisor for The Claro Group LLC, Robert’s role is focused on strategic and financial consulting, as well as providing clear, value-added professional services in the areas of disputes, claims, and investigations, as well as other analytics/advisory services. In his 35 years of experience, he has worked as a chief financial officer at Ute Energy, a partner at Arthur Andersen LLP, and a director for Huron Consulting. Robert has been awarded the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants John A. Harrison Award (1996) and Distinguished Public Service Award (1999).
