Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

Thanks to the continued vigilance of residents and staff, we still have no active COVID cases.

Our testing strategy, guided by recommendations from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), significantly contributed to our ability to identify, isolate and, eventually, reduce our positive cases. Testing will continue to be a priority for us as we enter the fall and winter months.

In recent weeks, we’ve been so pleased to see many of our independent living residents reunited with loved ones. We know how eager families of residents in our health center have been for similar visitation opportunities.

We’re delighted to announce we’ve received visitation approval for skilled nursing, assisted living and memory care, with the following criteria:

Skilled Nursing

  • Visitation is by appointment only; please contact social services to schedule a visit
  • All visits must be supervised and scheduled at least 24 hours in advance
  • Visitors must check in at The Plaza concierge and wear a mask during the entire visit

Assisted Living and Memory Care

Our team will reach out to families this week to provide further information on how to book appointments.

We know how anticipated this news is for many residents and families, and we truly appreciate your support, patience and understanding during these last seven months. It hasn’t been easy for anyone, and we’re so happy to welcome you back to our community.

While we sincerely hope this is another step toward normalcy, it’s only prudent to remind The Buckingham family that changes in visitation may occur due to regulatory requirements. If this happens, we’ll be sure to communicate any updates appropriately.

It is also important to reinforce that while we are moving towards a more open campus, the virus is still prevalent in the Harris County region.  It is important for all of us (including our visitors) to stay vigilant and continue practicing the important mitigation efforts to protect everyone.  We are not going to let our guard down and ask that you do the same.

If you have any questions around our visitation policies, or want to connect with me or the leadership team on other matters, please email

Take care and stay well.

James Kneen,

Executive Director
