Coronavirus Updates

February 11, 2021

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen:

As we look forward to our third and final vaccination clinic next week (Wednesday, Feb. 17), we’re grateful for the continued patience and cooperation shown by all members of The Buckingham family. After months of anticipation for this vaccine, the remaining weeks we must wait for it to reach full effectiveness can seem the most challenging.

As we optimistically watch the downward trend of new cases in Harris County and Greater Houston, we’re pleased to see relative stability for cases on campus. We recently welcomed five recoveries (4 staff and 1 resident), which leaves us currently with 10 positive cases (8 staff and 2 residents – one from memory support, one from skilled nursing).

These team members remain self-isolated at their homes, per our protocols, while the residents are quarantined in our on-site COVID unit. A handful of these individuals are already working on their first negative test, including one of the residents, so we hope to be in a position to announce further recoveries soon.

Barring any significant setbacks, our target date of mid-March to begin a gradual reopening of services remains on track. Conversations with our health partners and local officials are ongoing as we navigate how to do this responsibly and in a way that continues to prioritize the safety of everyone who lives and works here.

For now, our visitation policies are unchanged. Please contact our Concierge (713-979-3100) to make an appointment. If and when state guidelines and restrictions that influence our visitation protocols shift, we will communicate that appropriately.

Nearly a year into this pandemic, I think all of us truly understand the feeling of Groundhog Day. But now is the time to muster our remaining energy, focus and determination to get us over this – hopefully – final hurdle. As always, stay safe with masks in any public space (CDC is now recommending we double mask), frequent hand hygiene and social distance.

Take care and stay well.
