Philip Jacob joined the Buckingham as Health Care Administrator in 2011, bringing several years of experience from SavaSeniorCare Houston properties. Under his tenure, The Plaza has maintained some of the highest clinical outcomes in the city and received deficiency free surveys in 2015 and 2017. Also in 2017, Philip led the team to the AHCA/NCAL Bronze Commitment to Quality Award based on the Baldrige Health Care Criteria for Performance Excellence. Philip credits a focus on employee retention and continuity of care for residents as keys to success. Phil has an extensive background in hospitality management, starting his career in Hotel Management in Toronto, Canada. He relocated to Houston in 2002 to join Courtyard by Marriott as Sales and Catering Manager. His strong emphasis on staff and resident satisfaction make him a perfect fit with the Buckingham culture.
Phillip joined The Buckingham from our sister community in Austin, Querencia at Barton Creek, where he served as senior living sales counselor for nearly 3 years before becoming director of sales at The Buckingham in July 2018. He has more than 30 years of experience in senior living and medical supply sales, giving him an intimate understanding of the needs of our residents. Outside of work, Phillip has a deep passion for volunteering. Before moving to Houston, he mentored youth at the Dallas County Juvenile Department. Phillip has a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University in College Station.
Brenda oversees and evaluates the performance of our nursing staff at The Buckingham. With more than a half-decade of experience providing full-spectrum nursing at a variety of different care levels, Brenda has the knowledge it takes to make sure each resident’s needs are addressed quickly, calmly and with clinical expertise. She knows that service is paramount, and her attention to detail ensures that our nurses meet each resident with positivity and empathy. Brenda received her bachelor’s degree in skilled nursing from Lamar State University in 2016, after graduating with an associate degree from San Jacinto College South in 2015.
James Coughlin joined The Buckingham as Executive Chef in December, 2017. He has more than 36 years of culinary experience and is a graduate of Johnson and Wales University in Culinary Arts, Providence RI. His knowledge and passion for enhancing the dining experience is taking The Buckingham into a 4-star dining level of cuisine and service. Prior to joining The Buckingham, James was an Executive Chef for top hotels and restaurants in Las Vegas and other major cities across the United States. His family, wife and two children have relocated to Texas. James is looking forward to sharing his hobby of brewing his own beer with the community as well as enjoying what Texas and Houston have to offer during his leisure time.
Jarred joined The Buckingham team in March 2015, bringing with more than a decade of experience with SQLC. Jarred manages the maintenance team, overseeing the day-to-day maintenance needs of the community as well as working with contractors and vendors, planning community improvement projects and training staff. He is also responsible for landscaping and security. Originally from Garland, Texas, Jarred attended trade school for HVAC, where he acquired his EPA Universal HVAC license, HVAC Tech 1 certification and ICE Certification. Jarred is currently pursuing his Associate of Arts – Business Degree and plans to transfer to University of Houston to complete his Bachelors in Business Administration – Management.
Pam joined The Buckingham shortly after it’s opening in 2005. As Director of Resident Services and Lifestyles, she manages many aspects or resident life including housekeeping, move ins and personalizations, and lifestyles. Pam has been instrumental in our Masterpiece Living program as an original champion and led the effort toward Certification as a Center for Successful Aging. Pam’s extensive experience in the hospitality industry on Galveston Island laid the foundation of her role at The Buckingham. Pam is a native Houstonian and graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, receiving a bachelor’s degree in restaurant, hotel and institutional management.
Lori Mahana is a native Houstonian who joined The Buckingham in 2016 with more than a decade of experience in managing the operations of commercial cleaning at Spring ISD, where she over saw the environmental services for 15 schools and approximately 100 employees. As Director of Housekeeping, here at The Buckingham, her responsibilities include maintaining the cleanliness of all residents homes in all levels of care, as well as the public areas throughout the community. Her attention to detail has improved the surroundings of The Buckingham. In addition, she oversees the daily operations of the community laundry services for The Plaza healthcare.
Michael joined the Buckingham team in April 2018 as the healthcare administrator. For the past six years, he has been an administrator and marketer for a large not-for-profit Continuing Care Retirement Community in Texas. Michael also has more than 20 years of experience in team building, risk management, marketing and hospitality sales, which helps him promote a safe and caring environment for our residents and their families in our healthcare buildings.
